Supported Cameras
FrameCoach connects to cameras wirelessly over WiFi. The models listed below are compatible based on manufacturer wireless support. Compatibility may vary depending on firmware version and network conditions. We're actively working to bring support to all major camera brands and models. If you experience issues connecting, please contact us.
Sony
Connects via WiFi Direct over Sony's Camera Remote API. The bodies below speak the protocol FrameCoach supports today. The A6400 is fully verified end-to-end; the rest are protocol-compatible and pass community testing, but specific behaviour can vary by firmware. Some older bodies may need a firmware update.
* Limited — may not support all controls (e.g., no remote focus).
Sony — coming soon (in development)
These newer Sony bodies use Sony's Access Authentication / PTP-over-IP protocol, which FrameCoach doesn't yet speak. They're on the active roadmap — wireless connection support is in development. We'll update this page (and email beta testers) the moment they're ready.
Canon
Canon cameras need a quick one-time setup before connecting wirelessly. Follow our Canon setup guide →
Connects via WiFi after a one-time USB activation (~10 minutes). Once set up, connecting on set takes about a minute.
iPhone (built-in camera)
Works with the iPhone's built-in cameras directly — no wireless setup, no external camera. Open FrameCoach and shoot.
For a deep dive into shooting cinema-grade footage on iPhone, see our iPhone 15 Pro guide.
Firmware notes
Keep your camera on the latest firmware for the best chance of a clean connection. A few model-specific things worth knowing:
- Canon EOS R6 Mark II — firmware 1.7.0 (May 2026) formally added CCAPI. Older firmware will not connect. Update before running the Canon setup.
- Canon EOS R8 — firmware 1.5.0 or later is required for CCAPI. Update before activating.
- Canon CCAPI activation persists across firmware updates — once you've activated, you can install future Canon firmware updates without re-running the setup.
- Sony A6000 — Sony shut down the PlayMemories Camera Apps store in 2024. The Smart Remote app needed for wireless control still works on existing installs, but it cannot be reinstalled. Do not factory-reset an A6000 without checking with us first — a reset will remove Smart Remote and leave the body unable to connect wirelessly.
